Way Back to Sumeria

By Jonathan L Trapman

The idea that freedom is something relatively new on the block is misplaced!

We may be living through days and years where freedom is fast diminishing, yet the struggle and desire to stamp freedom as an intrinsic part of the human condition has been around since the beginning of time.

Way back in the days when humans first started to lay down in written glyph the idea of freedom it looked like this:

In Sumerian cuneiform this was what represented the word Freedom, thus it fits nicely into the logo I have now redesigned for The Freedom Cycle (top of page).

The great Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father, said with cutting prescience:

Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”

It is worth reminding ourselves at each moment when we are encouraged to relieve ourselves of another patch of freedom, in the idiot belief another can prevent us from the attainment of insecurity. We are the sole determinator of such outcome. If anyone does not comprehend or acknowledge that fact, then they must for their own sake make damn sure they do so as swiftly as possible.
